Best eyebrow designer and makeup artist

Cisco, in Sacramento, is a genius, an artist, and an all-around cool guy.  He’s a KCRA 3 A-List Winner three years in a row, and has clientele ranging from models to TV and movie entertainers—and it’s all for good reason.  He’ll regale you with funny stories while working his magic, and by the time he’s done, you’ll know you can never go to anyone but him!  (P.S. Ask him to show you his Ducati—it’s an awesome ride!) Cisco truly lives up to his promise of making you look and feel beautiful.

Best place to get "real" food

When we crave real food (think fresh, local, and inventive), we turn to the amazing folks at Monticello Seasonal Cuisine in Davis. Chef Tony constantly amazes us with his creative use of local, seasonal food. Their wine list is extensive, focusing on unique and local, as is their artisan beer selection. Their Tuesday night wine tasting is a must for your inner wine snob, minus the pretense of course! They frequently have local musicians to soothe your spirit with violin, guitar, and piano, and their stunningly decorated dining room and bar are a must see! Food allergies? Gluten-free? No problem! Just let Rhonda, the "yin" to Chef Tony's "yang", know and they will be more than accommodating! They may be a little off the beaten downtown path (630 G Street), but they are well worth looking for!

Best Handyman

You know how most people hire a handyman only to be sorely disappointed when they find out he actually can’t fix everything (and often breaks more things than he fixes)? Well, Gary Anderson can fix anything!  He’s helped out a lot around our little bakery, and let me tell you, this place couldn’t have opened without him!  When our first air conditioner – crucial for keeping those cupcakes at just the right temperature – proved to be useless, Gary gamely installed a bigger, WAY heavier air conditioner in one of the hottest summer afternoons we’ve had.  In addition to his many skills, Gary also happens to be a great guy.  Who else could be so cheerful while balancing a one hundred-fifty pound air conditioner on a wall?

Also, if you’re really lucky, Luke, a sweet and playful yellow Labrador, will be hanging out in Gary’s truck, overseeing the work.  We’ve spent a lot of time with Luke these past few weeks, and it’s pretty much convinced us that if Luke had thumbs and could walk on two feet, he could probably take on some jobs on his own!  He’s one seriously smart cookie.

Call Handyman Anderson at (916) 601-4882.

Best plumber

Best. Plumber. EVER!  Seriously—Steve has gotten us out of some crazy scrapes with our little bakery.  Plus, he’s just plain fun to have around (don’t let that snarky exterior fool you—he’s a major softie!).

Call Steve Holm Plumbing at (530) 757-7737

Best hotdogs

Get your wiener at The Hotdogger!  The dogs are to die for, and you’re certain to have a good laugh when talking to its fun owners, Ivan and Cheryl Franks.  Make sure you stop by to see them at Picnic in the Park, when they offer their corndogs (we have a hopeless addiction to them!).
