If there is one lesson I am most proud of teaching my daughters, it is to take the above quote not only to heart, but to action.
We are all in this together, on this sphere spinning in space. We all suffer, in varying degrees, we all have our burdens to bear, and we all have the capacity in even the smallest of ways to affect change. Too often we hear the excuse "I am only one person, I couldn't possibly make a difference." History has proved that statement false a multitude of times. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks - all single individuals who took leaps of faith to enact change. Where one leads, others will surely follow.
Throughout their lives, my daughters have experienced this philosophy firsthand. They have raised money for the environment, animals, children, shelters, and global organizations. They have also brought this lesson closer to home by aiding individuals directly. I could not be more proud of their constant desire to make a difference, large or small.
To this end, Let Them Eat Cake introduces our Flavor of the Month for Change. Beginning in September, $2 from each Flavor of the Month cupcake sold will go directly to our chosen charitable organization of the month. Each month we will feature a new organization alongside our new flavor.
